These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to your use of the TaxCycle website and application (the “Services”), provided by TaxCycle (“we”, “us”). By registering or using the Services you accept them. If you use the Services on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to agree on its behalf.
What TaxCycle provides
TaxCycle is a free tool for UK sole traders and landlords to maintain digital records, track income and expenses, and—where your build supports it—send Making Tax Digital (MTD) quarterly updates to HMRC. MTD for Income Tax applies to many people from April 2026; if the rules cover you, keep records current and meet HMRC’s update timetable. Features can differ by platform or version—what you have is described in the app and on this site.
Quarterly MTD updates are not your full Self Assessment return. You may still need to file an annual return or complete other HMRC steps. You are responsible for your own deadlines, figures, and compliance with HMRC.
TaxCycle does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for anything you submit to HMRC.
HMRC and third-party services
HMRC features are also governed by HMRC’s rules. HMRC can change or interrupt its systems without notice. We are not liable for HMRC decisions, penalties, outages, or errors outside our reasonable control.
By connecting HMRC in TaxCycle, you authorise TaxCycle to interact with HMRC on your behalf for the features you choose to use. That authority is subject to HMRC’s rules and may expire, be revoked by you, or withdrawn by HMRC; you may need to reconnect before HMRC-connected features work again.
Use the Services lawfully. Do not abuse HMRC connections or submit false or misleading information.
Eligibility and account security
Give accurate account details and protect your login. You are responsible for activity on your account unless you can show you could not reasonably prevent it. Contact us promptly at support@taxcycle.co.uk if you suspect unauthorised access.
Pricing
The Services are free today. If we introduce paid plans or paid add-ons, we will tell you clearly in the app or on the website before you are charged.
Downloads through an app store remain subject to that store’s billing, renewal, and refund terms for any paid items.
Acceptable use
You must not:
- Break the law or mislead HMRC or anyone else;
- Attack, bypass, or weaken security (ours or HMRC’s);
- Reverse engineer the app beyond what the law permits;
- Upload malware, spam, or material you have no right to use;
- Overload, scrape, or disrupt the Services;
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
Serious or repeated breaches may lead to suspension or closure of your access.
Your content
You keep ownership of the information you add. You allow us to host, back up, process, and display it to operate the Services, including transmitting data to HMRC when you instruct us to.
Keep your own copies or exports if you need them. You confirm uploads are lawful and that you may store and use them as you intend.
Intellectual property
We own the TaxCycle software, branding, and our materials (excluding your content and third-party material). We grant you a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the Services while you comply with these Terms.
Availability and changes
We work to keep the Services available but do not promise uninterrupted access. We may modify or retire features and will give reasonable notice when we can.
Disclaimer
Except where the law forbids exclusion, the Services are supplied “as is” and “as available”, without other warranties.
Limitation of liability
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under English law (including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
Apart from that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost data, or HMRC penalties linked to your tax position or use of the Services. Our total liability for a claim is capped at the higher of (a) fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (often £0 while the Services are free) and (b) £50, unless statute says otherwise.
Indemnity
You will cover our reasonable losses from claims caused by your misuse of the Services, your content, or your breach of these Terms, except where we are solely at fault.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Services whenever you wish. Delete your account via the app (primary route) or follow our Delete account page. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms, if we face serious legal risk, or if the law requires it.
Provisions that naturally continue—such as intellectual property, disclaimers, liability caps, and indemnities—remain in force where relevant.
Governing law
English law governs these Terms. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protections give you a different forum.
